So I had an idea for a story, it was the rare sort of story idea that presents itself as a more or less complete plot. An important part of the plot is a woman cheating on her husband with a fellow who turns out to be rather horrible, and it ends unpleasantly for her. But then I thought that wasn't politically correct and I'd never get it published. The obvious solution is a gender swap, it becomes a story about a man cheating on his wife with a woman who's rather horrible, and things end nastily for him. But wait, you can't write about a horrible, evil, female villain and expect anyone to think you don't mean that all women are horrible, evil, villains.
So how about I make both villain and person-with--unpleasant-ending the same sex. Whoops, that requires a gay relationship somewhere in the love triangle, and gay characters have to be good guys with happy endings for the same reasons.
I just want a love triangle with an evil, scheming villain; how hard does this have to be? Never mind political correctness or publishability. I'll write my story the way it initially came to me and be damned, |
